Unhooked; Bare (one's) Breast, prose & other poems is Renee LaMie's first full-length book. This book is a hybrid book that doesn't shy away from the confessional. Through the sections of poetry, lyrical essays, and love letter prose poems, a reader might get tossed around in time but will enjoy the ride. The lyrical essays are the through line that holds the book together. In the essays, the poet writes about being a closeted missionary in Romania, body autonomy, her body, her family, her friendships, her religion, and her queerness through the lenses of boundaries, barriers, and burdens. Those themes are then expanded upon in the rest of the prose and other poems.
